Bethlehem
I have used mosaic designs from the 4th century original floor of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem in both of the top pieces shown here.
The third piece, entitled Qabbeh, is my design for a chestpiece usuing traditional Behlehem couching patterns, plus one I have created myself from a pattern in a wall mosaic in the Church of the Nativity.
Talhami Fantasy uses border and roundel designs seen on Bethlehem dresses and jackets in a lesss traditional way.
The two star designs use Bethlehem tahriri couching on a hand-dyed background. The shape of the Star of Bethlehem on the left is used in cross-stitch designs on Palestinian dresses.
The larger piece on the left, Bethlehem Christmas, uses a lino print of the entrance to the Church of the Nativity as its background and the large star that marks the birthplace of Christ in the cave chapel inside.
